Adding custom shortcuts to Computer or Navigation pane in Windows isn’t a straightforward task, and you may need to tinker with Registry Editor or other system files to achieve your desired outcome. However, This PC Tweaker – a handy utility by WinAero – aims to make this task a tad bit easier by allowing you to add custom items within a few mouse clicks.
The application is designed to work with Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 By default, the ‘Computer’ or ‘This PC’ icon in Windows 8 and 8.1 respectively, gives us easy access to hard drives, network folders and removable drives. This PC Tweaker on other hand lets you add many additional items that may include My Documents, Libraries, Control Panel, Folder Options, Network Connections and many more.
The interface of This PC Tweaker comprises of two main tabs at the top that let you navigate between the list of items added to Computer and Navigation Pane. To pick a new shortcut, you simply need to click Add New Item to the right side of the window and then choose your desired item from the following list as illustrated below. What’s even more intuitive is that you can add multiple items in one go; all you need is mark the icons you need and hit the Add button.
Besides the Computer folder, This PC Tweaker makes it possible to add custom items under Navigation Pane as well. For the uninitiated, the Navigation Pane is found at the left side in Files Explorer window, and shows five locations by default named Favorites, Computer, Homegroup, Libraries and Network. As is apparent from what I’ve discussed above, the procedure to add custom items to Navigation Pane is the same. And once you’ve added your desired shortcut, click Restart Explorer to let the changes take in to effect.
For your reference, the screenshot below demonstrates two custom shortcuts; My Documents and Recycle Bin, that have been added under Computer and Navigation Pane using This PC Tweaker.
In a nutshell, an excellent Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 based application that makes the task of adding shortcuts to Computer a lot simpler. So what do you think, did you find This PC Tweaker useful? Share your thoughts in the comments section below.
